Because I can't stand to see an empty community, and because we've got a fair amount of people, now:
Do you have any weird headcanons for your characters? Anything you substituted to maybe fill in the gaps canon left behind? Or even just any weird little habits you think they might have? Share them here! Bonus if any of these headcanons lead to potential plotting ideas and CR encounters!
HEADCANON MEME
Zed
Date: 2013-04-02 01:33 am (UTC)2. Animals don't like him, much, because he doesn't smell alive.
3. Alzahad created Doom Bringer. He messed with Zed's head to make him dependant on it as a weapon. Giving him a sword pretty much destined to mess him up in a variety of ways was just another of Alzahad's science experiments.
4. Furthermore, Alzahad has just generally messed with Zed's head, as well as his body, which explains some of his idiosyncracies. Zed is aware of this, and doesn't really mind or see anything wrong with it. It's a way he could be useful to the Quarter Knights, and it got him a sweet secondary weapon out of the bargain. Alzahad has left some scars that would be evident on his skin, because it let him know where he'd already worked
5. He has a natural talent for anything computerized. He can work and understand pretty much any kind of program without much effort. He is, however, the worst kind of user - the kind with boundless enthusiasm who has no true idea what he's doing. Not really applicable here, I know.
6. He still has the capacity for evil - he's discovered that Good Feels Good, but given sufficient pushing or provocation, he'd go back to being a bad guy. It would pretty much just require taking Aura out of the equation, at this point. He actually did love Mother, and really want to see her reborn. Had he still been around when she was, he might have changed his mind.
7. He already had natural translation capabilities built in, thus allowing him to understand and be understood by a different species on a different planet. Thus, Zed is usually speaking the demon's language whenever he's talking. Without that, he probably couldn't speak a lick of whatever they speak on Filgaia. Writing, however, is still a problem - that doesn't get translated quite so easily, thus Zed isn't half as eloquent in writing and his handwriting is appalling.
8. Most of his theatrics are born out of loneliness. All of the Quarter Knights thought he was useless, except for Alzahad, who thought he'd make a good test subject because he was useless at everything else. Thus, Zed got used to talking a big game and making his presence as big as possible just to get noticed. He's very much the kind of guy where negative attention is better than no attention. Even though he's used to it, though, that kind of mental and emotional effort still takes it out of him - hence, why conversations with people he doesn't know well tend to the short side.
9. He's resistant to the elements, and overall gets tired a lot less than an average human. He still does, however, and does actually sleep.
10. His orange scarf is a piece of festival booth canvas stolen from Adlehyde during the attack. Similarly, his armor is just steel - high quality steel, but still just steel.

Date: 2013-04-02 02:22 am (UTC)I don't know. While I think he does have a lot of angst potential, he also seems pretty good at repressing and/or dealing. He's a resilient little bastard, if nothing else.

Date: 2013-04-02 01:43 am (UTC)✞ All clones within St. Kleio Academy study about their originals as well as learn their original's skills and what their original knew. They are expected to improve on these traits as well. Several of these bits of headcanon relate to that.
✞ Clothing-wise...
✞ Aside from her skills thought necessary to her being Jeanne's clone, Joan takes on what some may consider to be hobbies related to Jeanne's upbringing. Joan sews and does some little knitting, though she isn't exactly fantastic at either of these.
✞ Her bedroom is almost entirely clean, rigid and bland, following the looks of her room at St. Kleio. Or it will be at first. I suspect gradually more personality will leak in, via decorations and books.
✞ Joan likes to read quite a bit, mostly classics. ... And romances. Shhh, that parts a secret though.

Date: 2013-04-02 02:27 am (UTC)I confess, I did have to think on this. Then I laughed. A lot.
Very interesting notes about the clothes! That kind of thing can really say a lot about a character.
Also, your post actually made me go and take a look at the Wikipedia article on Jeanne d'Arc! Mostly because, for some reason, one of the most surprising things in this list for me to read was the sewing and knitting. I'm...not the best at history >_> .

Date: 2013-04-02 02:33 am (UTC)Jeanne did the family spinning of wool into thread like most girls her age did back then. I kinda transferred that into sewing and such for Joan herself.
no subject
Date: 2013-04-02 02:37 am (UTC)Makes sense! The spirit of it is still there, but there's not a lot of point in spinning wool into thread when the thread itself is so cheap and easy to find these days. You could spend more time sewing and knitting, that way.

Date: 2013-04-04 03:09 am (UTC)Kanji | Persona 4
Date: 2013-04-02 02:48 am (UTC)-Kanji learned how to sew and knit from his mother, partially because he was a very quiet and shy kid, and he wasn't making too many friends. It would be a way to occupy and nurture his mind and give him something to do. He's going to take up running the family business when he grows up, so why not expose him to how fun it can be?
-He'd always play Phoenix Rangers Featherman R with his father! He was always the roguish Black Condor, while dad was the leader, Red Hawk. It's one of Kanji's fondest memories.
-Kanji took to sewing/knitting quickly and fell in love. His first finished project among countless little knitted swatches of yarn and practice pieces, is a stegosaurus doll he calls Spike. Spike sits in his closet to this day, showing his age, but gets a popped stitch fixed now and again. Spike is destined to be an heirloom, passed down to his kids. His mother thinks Spike had been thrown away years ago.
-Kanji has a headache-inducing file at the police station, but the citations listed are primarily minor infractions, like bullying and acts of violence. While it isn't headcanon that he tended to beat up bullies, stop people shoplifting in the local shops and demanding they march back and pay for what they stole, and defeated an entire biker gang singlehandedly for waking up his mother with the noise they were making, he does have a few legitimate notes: Underage drinking and trespassing, for instance.
-This boy's metabolism is ridiculous. He's a big guy, but he's solid, has a bit of built muscle in his middle and in his arms. He may not look it, but he's actually 16- he still has some growing to do! All the running around and crushing bikers on top of still being a teenager leads to a huge appetite. Meals are always large, and he tends to eat like he hasn't eaten in a week. Try not to make TOO disgusted of a face as he destroys what's on that plate and his elbows are everywhere- his table manners are still kind of bad. (Plus his mom isn't around to whack him one for eating/acting like a pig) Consider the clean plate a compliment.
-Kanji's got a bit of a sweet tooth. He'll down a liver and leek stir fry like nobody's business, but he tends to perk up with the promise of something like a creme caramel. Caramel is his absolute favorite flavor.
-It's not headcanon that Kanji, for lack of a better way to put it, wishes Naoto would notice him (uguu?). However, too shy to outright say he's had the biggest crush on her for up to a year now, he hopes his hints will clue the poor detective in. The trouble is that she's oblivious and his hints are the worst hints in the world. To say they're 'vague' is rather... kind of you.
-Kanji has silly, silly names for everything. Spike is the manliest word he could think of, but he actually keeps a small knit rabbit cellphone charm in his pocket that he calls Bun-Bun. The same will go for his livestock. Apologies to those poor cows, chickens, alpacas, horse and woolies he will be getting in the future.
THIS POST IS GETTING A LITTLE BIG, so I'll stop here.
Re: Kanji | Persona 4
Date: 2013-04-02 07:48 am (UTC)...man, Zed would think Phoenix Rangers Featherman was the coolest thing ever. Maybe the Harvest Goddess will be kind and bring over some issues of the manga one of these days.
no subject
Date: 2013-04-02 01:41 pm (UTC)Kanji would secretly be grinning in glee if he got his hands on a few issues. He'd claim that yeah, he was totally a fan back in the day, but what they don't know is he still knows the theme song from the TV show, the pose, and has worn a Black Condor costume more than a few times...

Date: 2013-04-03 04:51 am (UTC)1. Lily’s parents weren’t married and Ivory is her mother’s surname. Neither of her parents have been named in canon so far but it seems highly unlikely she’d use her father’s name since he walked out when she was a baby and after one unhappy encounter many years later, she wants nothing to do with him. (I’ll probably find out if I’m right or wrong in about three months since Lily’s father is supposed to finally appear in the next book.)
2. It’s May 2011 at Lily’s canon point. I base this mostly on a scene where her familiar Oscar watching one of the Terminator movies and saying the Governor was in it and Lily correcting him and saying Ex-Governor, meaning it’s at least 2011. And the first book being set in early March and Lily mentioning that Mardi Gras was coming up; it was March 8 in 2011.
3. Lily has a summer birthday. It seemed to be June in the latest book with her friend Bronwyn’s granddaughter being out of school for the summer. And in that book she told Oscar that she was 31, almost 32. I kind of think it might end up being during the next book when her father shows up to visit (as an unwanted birthday gift).
4. The mandrake plant that Lily has on her terrace in one of the more recent books is the one that was originally in Frances Potts’ garden. She didn’t have one of her own in the first book so she went back after the house burned down and dug the whole thing up.
5. The Hand of Glory that Lily found at the Potts house in the first book was made from Ronald Potts’ hand. It’s supposed to be the dried and pickled hand of a hanged man and Ronald had committed suicide by hanging.

Date: 2013-04-04 03:12 am (UTC)- Naoto loves Alice in Wonderland. She actually pushed herself to learn to read in English fluently so she could understand the nuances and wordplay in the book; no easy feat. Her mother gave her a plush of the Cheshire cat from the Disney version of the movie, and Naoto keeps it with her (in secret). This explains (at least in my head) why she chose to dress Teddie up in a very obvious homage to Alice’s outfit. Totally nailed it too.
-Naoto is a bit of an Anglophile in general, actually. She grew up loving stories of famous and gritty detectives, so of course she adores Sherlock Holmes. She’s at least vaguely familiar with some other BBC based shows.
-It’s no secret how much she loves sentai shows and the like. What is a secret is that she keeps all of her old action figures in perfect condition and whenever she’s moved temporally to a new location for a job, she brings one or two with them, if not the full box o’ stuff she’s collected.
-She also still collects figures of more recent shows. Just her favorites though!
-Naoto loves Batman, especially the 90s cartoon. She of course can watch it in English and read the original comics, though she’s a bit choosy about which ones.
-She can handle spicy food no problem- her and her grandfather tended to eat a variety of different types of foods. She loves Sushi, dark chocolate and lemon flavored candy.
-She has no idea Kanji has romantic feelings towards her. In fact at first she thought despite his efforts in saving her from her shadow, he wasn’t very inclined to accept her as a friend. She totally misses his hints that hey, I like you, cause she’s so used to people being obvious about their ‘attraction’ to her with love letters and out and out declarations of love and adoration… when she was pretending to be a boy. As such his behavior can be really, really weird to her, but she hopes he still considers her a good friend and comrade in arms. Someone needs to put a frying pan to both their heads.
-Her family has some relation to the Raidou from the Devil Summoner series. How deep or far along is hard to say. Though her grandpa sure has had that cat for a long time…
-Speaking of that cat, Naoto didn’t have many friends growing up due to her extreme focus on being a detective like her parents and her odd interests. Because of this, most of her play pretend was with her grandfather’s cat, her grandfather when he had the time and the family servant. She was always Batman, but she preferred to play Feather Swan when they played Phoenix Ranger Featherman R.
-She likes point and click adventure games, or puzzle games-anything that makes her brain work.
-Don’t get her started on the inaccuracies in police/crime dramas. She can go on forever. Yet she still watches them from time to time.
-Rise tries to use her as a dress up doll when they hang out alone, much to Naoto’s utter embarrassment.
I'M SORRY THIS IS SO LONG /flops
